Hamm’s on-screen daughter Kiernan Shipka, who played Sally Draper, was also hopeful for Hamm before he won. “Everyone has seen that he’s an incredible actor, and he truly is phenomenal,” Shipka told Variety. “Just working with him is an incredible experience because he’s just a generous actor, and he’s a generous human being. He is truly so gracious, so down to earth, so nice, and being able to watch him explode into who he is and just remain exactly the same is just awesome and it’s such a great lesson. I think he’s just phenomenal all around and he really is a joy to work with. He carried the entire show, really.

Emmy Producers Reception, held at the Montage Hotel
7:15 p.m.: Mad Men creator Weiner was in the spotlight upon arrival at the Montage as he fields one obvious question. "Are we going to win this Sunday? I really truly don't know," he says of what would be Mad Men's potential fifth and final drama series victory. "I'm hearing a lot about Game of Thrones right now, especially after the Creative Arts Awards last weekend. Who knows?" he says. "Honestly, my first priority is for Jon [Hamm] to win. That will make my night. There's no other actor more deserving."

Jon Hamm, too, was all smiles, having snagged the lead actor Emmy at long last for his role as Don Draper in Mad Men. Surrounded by co-stars John Slattery, January Jones, Kiernan Shipka and others, he took a breath and said, “I’m just hanging in there.”
Reminding Hamm about how he said back in August at the annual Oceana Sea Change Summer Party that he long ago stopped trying to guess his chances at winning an Emmy, he said, “Nothing changed. I still wasn’t guessing,” he said. “This was very unexpected.”

Hamm about the Emmy with J.Pardo....at 01:50 mn

How was your night?
.....And then Jon's standing ovation, and I just felt like I wish we had another season of the show so I could use that to sell it. [Laughs.]
I felt like he should've won every year. For me it was a beautiful moment. I directed the last seven episodes, and I can tell you that his performance was just remarkable. When I was writing, I was writing to him, as I always do, but I just backed off and watched him do it. And it was nice to see him noticed. That’s how I see it.

Liev Schreiber shared his pick to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. "Jon Hamm is an extraordinary actor. And he's been nominated how many times now? I think he should win. I do. He's a very nice guy. I like him. He’s a nice guy, and I think he should win.”
