February 2017 - news - Jon Hamm

This special live episode recorded at the 16th annual SF Sketchfest, presented by Audible, brings you the wit, charm, and considerable heavyweight talent of Rachel Dratch, Jon Hamm, and “Musical Director” Matt Nathanson!
Jon Hamm and Jessica Chastain are among the names on a star-studded list of presenters announced Friday for the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
Oh, Hello costars Nick Kroll and John Mulaney have been tapped to host the nonprofit ceremony this year, which will be held at a daytime luncheon on the beach in Santa Monica.
The Film Independent Spirit Awards honors artist-driven films produced on modest budgets. The show will air live Feb. 25, exclusively on IFC at 5:00 PM ET
The H&R Block commercial, which will air during the first quarter of the Super Bowl, plays up the H&R Block advertising theme this tax season for how on to "Get your taxes won." It also will feature actor Jon Hamm. The tax preparation giant declined to give more specific details on the Super Bowl ad.

I was hustling,” said Jon Hamm, recalling those pre-Mad Men days. “I was working on a TV show, weirdly enough with Taraji Henson, called The Division on Lifetime. So I had a job, which was nice.”
I was doing alright,” he said, laughing. “I had Tivo.”

H&R Block – The tax preparer made its first Super Bowl appearance in eight years to promote its partnership with IBM’s Watson. Two questions: Does anybody really wear a bow tie in an H&R; Block office like the guy who used to be in their ads? Does Jon Hamm’s agent ever say no?

Q: You and Jon have a great comic relationship.
A: “Jon and I have known each other a long time, before he starred in MAD MEN. We were both actors and we’d run into each other a lot. He and I share a similar sensibility in terms of humor and I think that is why we enjoy each other’s company. Jon is very funny and quick. It drives me crazy that he’s those things plus being a nice guy. And he happens to be so good looking too. And Gal Gadot is an impressive lady. She’s very talented.”

The success of my books has meant I've met famous men, like Mad Men actor Jon Hamm. We met at a party and I enjoyed speaking with him. He's a man who listened when I spoke and who is personally very interesting.

What Has Jon Hamm Been Up to Since the Mad Men Finale?
....
February 2017: The pilot for ABC’s comedy Libby and Malcolm, about a Democratic operative and a Republican politico who get married and blend their families together, films in L.A. Jon Hamm plays himself. No one can do Hamm like Hamm.
Q:   Casting
I think that TV showrunners count on viewers to have certain associations with actors. When you cast Drew Barrymore, you are hoping that people will say "She's charming and funny in Movie A and B and C, so I know this is a comedy, even though it's about zombies. I'll give it a try." You know that some people are saying "She can't do anything more than wave her arms in a certain way," but you hope there are more of the former than the latter. And unknown actors are depended on too. Part of why Jon Hamm was so effective as Don Draper was that nobody knew who he was. Handsome, sure, but -- Nice guy? Mean guy? Funny guy? Gay? Mormon? Fast food junkie? With a better-known actor, the mystery is gone. Imagine it with Alec Baldwin or Kelsey Grammer and you see what I mean.

TV Actors Who Have Reinvented Themselves in New Roles
                                                               ............................
Gazelle Emami: So this is usually the case with TV characters who are so big and larger than life that it’s hard to see them in any other way. One of the first examples that come to mind is Jon Hamm; he played Don Draper on Mad Men and he was able to reshape his image a bit as a comedic person, from 30 Rock to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to Bridesmaids. He’s kind of embraced this persona to the point where I think you are able to see him beyond Don Draper.
Jen Chaney: I think what was smart about what he did is that he was doing that concurrently. So he was on 30 Rock, and Mad Men was still going. A lot of actors do the show that typecasts them, and then they try to get another role after that and it’s tough. He was already laying the groundwork so that you could see his versatility before Mad Men.
..............................................
Hamm I think is an amazing actor, and it’s great seeing how good he is at comedy because you wouldn’t necessarily know that if you’d just seen him on Mad Men, but he’s always going to be Don Draper.
On the eve of the Super Bowl, when people were hopping from one party to another in downtown Houston, quarterback Tony Romo bumped into actor Jon Hamm.
The implications of this meeting for the Cowboys are clear. Romo intends to retire and assume a role in the sequel to Mad Men. Either that or he was consulting Hamm for the best way to get his taxes won.
Hardly a day goes by that some new piece of information isn't added to speculation about the quarterback's future. Although Romo and Hamm did have a conversation during Super Bowl weekend, some of the proposed scenarios that have been floated have no more connection to reality than Romo taking a role in a sequel that isn't in the works.
Take retirement off the table. Nothing he has told friends and confidants indicates that's an option

So, are we living in a totalitarian country now? While Mad Men star Jon Hamm told MarieClaire.com that he didn't "want to talk about Donald Trump" (note: we asked if the current president could have been influenced by his deeply troubled character), Weiner was more verbose, saying he never understood why "conservatives like Mad Men" when it's very clear that "the show was a criticism of conservatism and soul-crushing capitalism."

Mad Men star Jon Hamm was at the Vanity Fair-hosted Oscar dinner, watching the ceremony with a table that included Shonda Rhimes, Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, and more. He told Vanity Fair during our Oscar Party live-stream that after La La Land was declared the winner, he excused himself to visit the restroom. “Somewhere during mid-handwash,” he explained, “there seems to be a kerfuffle.” Hamm said he emerged to see the entire celebrity-packed dining room staring at the screen slack-jawed. “There were a thousand people on stage. It was kind of the greatest, weirdest for an awards show to end ever.” Hamm joked that he wished a similar last-minute reversal had happened during the 2016 election

The first wave of party guests—including James Corden, J.J. Abrams, Jean Pigozzi, Jimmy Buffett, Rashida Jones, and Jon Hamm—made their way into a circular, wood-paneled dining room to find their seats (signified with a custom-inscribed miniature Oscar) and watch the ceremony.
