Kristen Wiig about Hamm

IFC had the chance to catch up with Hamm while he was promoting “Friends With Kids” and talk about his working association with Wiig. When the two previously mentioned ill-fated onscreen relationships were mentioned to Hamm, he burst out laughing. “Yeah, I love that one,” he said, meaning Wiig. “She’s a good girl, and so much fun to be opposite. But sometimes when things don’t work out is more fun.”
Though it seems as though the two actors have known one another for ages, it turns out that they only got to know each other after Hamm hosted “Saturday Night Live” back in 2008. Though Hamm admitted he and Wiig might have met before through mutual friends like Paul Rudd, it wasn’t until the “Man Men” star’s first “SNL” gig that the two of them really hit it off.
We just clicked together on the first time I hosted, and we did a bunch of sketches together and then as I came back and hosted the show a couple more times, I don’t know, for whatever reason our energies just kind of flowed in the right way,” he said. “She’s so goddamn talented and it’s always fun to be in a scene with her, so when she asked me to do ‘Bridesmaids,’ I was like, ‘I will do whatever you want.'”

Grohl : Are you drawing from personal experience ?
Wiig : I think I have a lot of similarities to my character. She's involved with someone who is not really nice to her, and I think that's something that a lot of women do for some reason or another.
Grohl : Is that Jon Hamm ?
Wiig : Yes that's Jon Hamm's character.
Grohl : Is he super-snuggly and cozy or what ? I'd imagine in real life, he's super-snuggly.
Wiig : He's not really.
Grohl : His character on Mad Men is a little prickly...Maybe snuggly and prickly
Wiig : A little bit. His character in the movie is the king of person who gives mixed messages. "I like you so much...Ooh, but I really want you to leave."
Grohl : Well, he's a man.
Wiig : Yes. Exactly.

I think we probably went through about 15 positions — and you’ll see the outtakes of it. You can only get that if you have two cool, comfortable and funny actors doing it. I’d be hard-pressed to think of two people who would go for it completely and so comfortably.

R.R : Kristen, in the opening scene you had to give Jon Hamm a break. He plays this guy who wants nothing more than sex from you. You're his third choice when he's making booty calls. And you essentially invent some new positions....
KW: That was actually our last day of shooting. It as one of those things where we said we'll just do stuff and you can throw me around. He was great in the movie. He's very funny. He can play a douchebag like no one else.

the very first scene is a multiposition sex scene involving Wiig and Jon Hamm.
"There's some good positions in there. Jon Hamm—pumpin' away. He was making his money that day. There was nothing hot about that scene. We weren't, like, looking into each others' eyes. A lot of women who've seen the movie tell me that they can totally relate to that relationship. We've all had that one person where we're like, 'I don't know.... But he's good-looking. And it's convenient.' Am I saying something about myself that I shouldn't be saying?"

"The idea of casting Jon Hamm and all the sex stuff came quite late on. It's not as if I was trying to get into bed with Jon Hamm," says Wiig, who has been in a relationship with actor and filmmaker Brian Petsos since her early 30s. "Also, my dad was very uncomfortable watching my last sex scene."

For a lot of comics, there’s a persona they’re not comfortable revealing unless they’re performing. Kristen is incredibly shy; she has her hoodie pulled up and her sleeves pulled over her hands. But this is a woman who wore coconuts on her tits on SNL; she can go to the craziest, most grotesque places on the planet in character. Kristen came late to performing, and the way she rose through the ranks speaks both to her drive and to her wild talent. The first time I noticed her was watching the SNL sketch "Lady Business." Kristen’s line was "I’m a bitch in the boardroom, a bore in the bedroom, and I’m a bear on the toilet," which she delivered with over-the-top seriousness. I thought, "My God, this girl is funny."

On his sex scenes with Kristin Wiig in Bridesmaids: “It’s like running in the rain. There’s a certain point where you go, ‘F*ck it, I’m already wet. I’m not going to get any less wet, so I might as well just enjoy how this feels.’ I mean, sure, there’s an awkwardness about being in a weird flesh-colored thong, bouncing on top of an actress. And I am not a small human being. I weigh at least 200 pounds and I’m six-foot-two. And Wiig is a twig; she’s a skinny little thing. I told her, ‘Just punch me in the side if I’m hurting you.’ It’s weird and uncomfortable at first, but then all the awkwardness melts away and you think, All right, we’re doing this, so let’s have fun with it. … You’re in that moment and it’s happening and it’s not going to get any better, so you might as well enjoy it.”

Q: And Jon Hamm. How were the bedroom scenes to film?
Kristen Wiig: That question’s hard to answer because I want to say, ‘oh, it was fun’ but then I sound like a big perv! I think we laughed through the whole thing. Paul made me laugh the way he was shouting out things for him to do to me!
