February 2021 - news - Jon Hamm

....But in the SkiptheDishes ads, which actually predate the pandemic, the big joke is that Hamm thinks he's Canadian. He wears Canadian tuxedos, enjoys poutine, tries to pronounce “oui.” In a lot of ways, it seems these commercials were conceived as a platform for Hamm’s comedic side, whether it’s using silly language in the Smorgasbord board bit, or making weird faces in the No words necessary spot, or poking fun at his own career in Your life. Your toppings. And Hamm’s tendency toward goofiness isn’t exactly surprising. He’s been involved in a lot of high-profile comedy projects: “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “30 Rock,” “Bridesmaids,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” to name a few. But for whatever reason, Hamm always finds himself in a supporting role.

Which brings me to my theory as to how this SkiptheDishes campaign came about. It’s reasonable to assume that Hamm is constrained by his cultural identity. Whether he likes it or not, he might be remembered as Don Draper forever, trapped in the public consciousness as a joyless ad exec drinking old-fashioneds and wearing finely tailored suits. These commercials give Hamm an opportunity to flex his funny bone, in a non-supporting role, while subverting the public’s expectations by playing a character who’s the opposite of his Hollywood caricature. Real-life Hamm is thoroughly American, Skip Hamm wants desperately to be Canadian. Hamm is best known for a serious dramatic role, Skip Hamm takes nothing seriously, except, of course, the benefits of using a third-party delivery app.

WILD MOUNTAIN THYME | Q&A with John Patrick Shanley and Jon Hamm

John Slattery is setting up his second feature as a director, Maggie Moore(s), with fellow Mad Men alum Jon Hamm and Tina Fey.
Maggie Moore(s) takes place in a dusty desert town where nothing ever happens, as a police chief is suddenly faced with the back-to-back murders of two women with the same name.
Jon Hamm, Danny Pudi, Sarah Gadon and Christopher Heyerdahl are headlining the dark comedy Corner Office, the film adaptation of Swedish actor Jonas Karlsson's existential novel The Room, about an office outsider who discovers a mysterious place of refuge.
Corner Office is directed by Oscar-winning Danish director Joachim Back (The New Tenants), while The Pianist cinematographer Pawel Edelman is the director of photography. The indie is shooting in Vancouver through mid-March.
The office satire sees Hamm play Orson, a compulsive bureaucrat who discovers a secret room his co-workers deny exists.
...restaurants in New York City can be open for indoor dining with a cap at 35 percent occupancy. One of the city's iconic restaurants, Peter Luger Steak House, has found a way to fill some of the empty space without sacrificing safety amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic thanks to Madame Tussauds.
The steakhouse teamed with the wax museum to book extra seats and areas around the restaurants with recognizable figures: Jon Hamm will be waiting by the bar, Audrey Hepburn is holding court at a table, Jimmy Fallon will be mixing it up with a smile, Michael Strahan will be sitting back and greeting guests while Al Roker will help direct diners to a second floor.
