Ray Romano Reacts to Jon Hamm's Impression of Him
In the new late-night HBO series Random Acts of Flyness, Terence Nance paints the black experience with a canny, kaleidoscopic brush. He explores themes like police brutality, and blackface, and the psychological impacts of white supremacy with short, creative montages and sketches..................there’s animation, glitter, music, and surprising cameos from instantly recognizable stars, like Jon Hamm, who plays a wholesome avatar of whiteness.

Tackling this particular vein of white supremacy is also why Nance included a piece about a white character (Hamm) directly addressing white people and their “white thoughts” (i.e. “don’t all lives matter?”). “You can’t have white supremacy without whiteness,” he said. “But also the divestment from whiteness that would have to happen for white supremacy to end, or start to end, would have to be initiated and propagated by white people.”
““It was a gift that Jon ended up being able to do it,” Nance continued. “He put layers in the piece.” Hamm was selected because TV audiences, particularly white TV audiences, have an intimate relationship with him, thanks to his lead turn on Mad Men. Thankfully, the actor was amenable to Random Acts and the nature of the piece.

One segment features Jon Hamm selling a black cream for people suffering from “white thoughts.” You’d be hard-pressed to think someone more fit to sell such a product than this resolutely cheerful Don Draper. “The criteria was the face that America trusts,” said Nance. “We thought about a bunch of people, kind of put out soft feelers out, and we got a lot of, ‘No, not available, not going to happen.’ Luckily, [Jon Hamm’s] agent responded and thought he would like it. So we sent it and essentially just got lucky that he responded to it.”

Jon Hamm 'White Thoughts' | Random Acts of Flyness | HBO
Jon Hamm, the star of the landmark television series "Mad Men," comes to town this fall to collaborate in a work-in-progress theater project dubbed "Fishing," which will see him team with Wilco percussionist Glen Kotche and director/choreographer Danielle Agami.
"We are going to welcome this amazing mash-up of artists," Sue Killam, Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art's managing director of performing arts, said Wednesday morning. "They're going to come together in a piece called ‘Fishing.'
"The performance touches on the beautiful, simple absurdity of desire. And they're going to be here for two weeks figuring it out. They're just starting this collaboration, and they're here to learn what that collaboration is going to bring up for them.
"We'll be lucky enough to see the results of their work together."

Media talks about famous Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees fans, but the Cards have their share. Have you ever talked baseball with Jon Hamm?
I have hung out with Jon Hamm a few times, and he was in our fantasy football draft a few years back. And after the World Series in 2011 he’d come to town and invite us out to dinner, go to a bar together or something. I feel like I get to know him better because he’s a huge Cardinals fan. We text, and he’s always pumping me up for big games. We go into Chicago, he’ll send a text and say “whoop the Cubs” and when he posts something on social media about us, wearing his Cards hat, and I’ll always text back, tell him I love the support.
We also got to meet John Goodman and also John Daly, big Cards fans.....
Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman have been set to join the cast of Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the iconic original that is in the works at Paramount Pictures. They join a cast toplined by Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller in the pic, which Joseph Kosinski is directing.
The film is slated for release July 12, 2019.
No word on the character descriptions of the new three so far, but Harris and Hamm add instant gravitas to the proceedings....
Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with Cruise and Skydance’s David Ellison.
