Jon Hamm: "It's hard to become the center of attention

Interviewing an actor who owes almost everything to a single role can end in a fiasco.  You have to be careful: frequently the interviewee rejects any question that may involve that idea and prefers to talk about other things, only about other things, about more recent things.  Anything less than The Character, The Series or The Movie.
However, Jon Hamm shows no sign of discomfort when a large part of the questions he receives are about Mad men .  If it bothers you, it does not show.  Dressed in Chinese, cardigan and sneakers and perfectly combed, the mythical Don Draper receives us in Madrid between photoshoot and photo session.
He has come to participate in an advertising campaign of Emidio Tucci that, without any kind of reparation (or lack thereof), shows Hamm as an update of the character that made him the star he is now.  A few weeks after speaking with ICON, the image of the interpreter is in billboards and television spots .  The adult and hypermasculine elegance of Don Draper channeled by Jon Hamm.  Or vice versa.
"It's hard to become the center of attention, both professionally and personally," he responds when asked about his relatively late arrival at stardom.  Hamm was already 37 years old when Mad men saw the light, back in 2008......
Many will remember how at the time of picking it up, Hamm did not seem very happy.  "I had many more things to worry about than whether I won the Emmy or not," he says with some reluctance, even when the journalist slides a personal opinion: the television industry almost owed him that recognition.  "I have never entered an awards gala waiting for anything.  I think that's absurd, "he continues.  "Sometimes, it's about being in the right place and at the right time;  in others it depends on a million other things. "
In the already finished Rockefeller Plaza and in the most recent Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt , delirious and hyperaccelerated comedies, he disassociates himself as much as possible from Draper.  "I knew that some people would be surprised if someone who played such a serious guy would now make crazy characters, but the latter are more like how I really am," he says.  That change of professional direction was his idea ("I always make decisions about my career"), although he admits to being more comfortable in drama than in comedy.
He also admits that in his case the log jump is not automatic.  "There are actors like Elisabeth Moss who can do so [snap her fingers] and connect and disconnect;  it costs me more, "he says.  For Moss, he has only praise.  His cast partner in Mad Men did not win any of the six Emmys he chose for the series.  His Peggy Olson is the other great protagonist of the series, because his story is so important and, of course, much more symbolic than Don's.  "It's ironic that a series called Mad Men is about women, although I do not think it's only about women," he says.
Draper is also a fashion icon.  " Mad men regained a certain way of dressing, a certain way of life," says Hamm, while acknowledging that he does not have too much sense of style himself.  "Put on a suit is a quick way to look good" is not what you expect to hear from someone who embodied one of the best dressed TV characters.
On the other hand, and unlike so many other actors little given to appear in the media, Hamm is as handsome off the screen as in, and surprisingly tall and athletic.  He is everything Don Draper that can be someone in 2017. At the moment of this conversation it is evident that he is tired (the production plans of an advertising campaign are not usually relaxed), but at 46 years Hamm has the appearance that one Imagine they had the stars of classic Hollywood.  His next work, which he quotes with enthusiasm but without insistence, will bring him back to Europe: his presence in the miniseries Good Omens , from Amazon and BBC 2, is confirmed: it will be the archangel Gabriel.
More than two years after Mad Men's end, Jon Hamm continues to capitalize on Don Draper.  And most likely you can do it throughout your life.  Of stars of the TV that loaded their aura based on pathetically trying to be someone in the cinema, after having been everything on television, the world is full.  Also broken toys evicted before 30.
Jon Hamm, who has rejected more than a lucrative superhero role, does not seem to be too obsessed with cinematic glory.  And as a juvenile star prematurely withdrawn luckily comes very late.  Its real entry into our lives occurred less than 10 years ago, in a series in which people drank and smoked as if there were no tomorrow.  Mad Men soon became one of the cultural totems of the early 21st century and Hamm, in its most recognizable face.  While he sees him walking among the Madrid team that will make him one of the faces of the advertising autumn in Spain, one remembers that "women want to be with him and men want to be him".  I think that is said of Don Draper in Mad men .  And if it is not said, it should be said.

WORLD PREMIERE TRAILER – Jimmy Kimmel’s The Terrific Ten

Jimmy Kimmel turned 50 on Monday, so it was only right that his most famous friends (and his most infamous enemy) got together to bring his childhood dreams to life. As a preteen, Kimmel created his own Kimmel Comics universe starring the “The Terrific Ten,” and J.J. Abrams has brought it to life, starring Billy Crudup as Color Kid, Zach Galifianakis as Super Duck, Shaquille O’Neal as Spire, Ty Burrell as Mirgiv, Will Arnett as Meinstrom, Jason Bateman as Bendolite, Jon Hamm as Lucky Lad, Cousin Sal as Super Sal, Jennifer Aniston as Laser Lass, Ben Affleck as Muscle Man, Matt Damon as the evil Dr. Bolt, and Wanda Sykes as his sidekick (a… box of bleach). Finally, the cinematic universe 2017 deserves.
“Don’t ever shave your legs. You will regret it for the rest of your life,” my English-born-Episcopalian-converted-to-Judaism mother said to me when I was nine. Nine! I was desperate to shave. My mother said it very matter of factly. Knowingly. Finality-ly. And there I was. All of nine, and I had legs like Jon Hamm’s face at five o’clock. This was not good news for me.
Hamm in Nostalgia, directed by Mark Pellington ...the film is also starring Ellen Burstyn, Catherine Keener, Nick Offerman, Amber Tamblyn, Patton Oswalt and Bruce Dern.
The release date of the movie is set to February 16, 2018.

A stellar cast gathers to narrate Stinker Lets Loose, the purportedly resurfaced novelization of a supposedly beloved ’70s trucker film of the same name. The story is part Smokey And The Bandit trilogy, part Every Which Way But Loose; the titular Stinker leads lawmen on a wild chase that apparently includes a chimp. The audiobook, from Mike Sacks (And Here’s The Kicker, Poking A Dead Frog), is due out in January exclusively on Audible, and The A.V. Club has an exclusive clip featuring Jon Hamm as Stinker, who marvels at Gwyneth’s (Rhea Seehorn) science skills.
BBC Studios press release "Gabriel is the leader of the angels, and the most stylish and impeccably dressed of all of them," costume designer Claire Anderson said. "We chose an immaculately tailored suit that Jon Hamm wears to perfection, in light colors, along with lilac accessories to bring out Gabriel's unnerving violet eyes."
