July 2017 - news - Jon Hamm

....Narrated by Jon Hamm, this mockumentary chronicles a 1982 cycling event in all its silly glory, with Samberg, Orlando Bloom, Daveed Diggs, John Cena, and Freddie Highmore portraying the main players in that event while a litany of celebrities contextualize the story in modern day, talking head-style interviews. It’s a hilarious, insane, and surprisingly compelling watch complete with some genuine twists and turns and fantastic cameos (hint: listen closely to the voiceover work).

Elsewhere, Edgar Wright's Baby Driver is still impressing in a much-needed win for Sony's film studio. The modestly budgeted heist-thriller grossed an estimated $4.4 million on Tuesday from 3,226 cinemas for a seven-day total of $39.1 million, well ahead of expectations. Baby Driver opened last Wednesday.
Sony's TriStar Pictures, MRC and Working Title partnered on the critically acclaimed pic, which Sony says cost $34 million to make after rebates.

Hamill was speaking after he and Fisher were awarded one of Disney's highest honours, being named Disney Legends at the company's fan convention in Anaheim, California.
Hamill, 65, told the crowd that he still had not managed to get his head around news of the award.
"When they told me, I said: 'Are you sure they're not wanting Mark Harmon or Jon Hamm or even Dorothy Hamill?'" he said.

Jon Hamm: "I am aware that I will always be remembered as Don Draper"
Elizabeth Moss, who played Peggy Olson in "Mad Men," triumphed in Cannes with "The Square" and is the television star with "American Gods" and "The Tale of the Maid."  Does that help you out of the character of the series?
 - I'm very happy for her, because she's an excellent actress.  I have not yet seen The Square , I know it has a small but unforgettable role.  She and I are very fortunate because we can do what we want and that is a very privileged situation for any actor.  Elizabeth inspires me and I hope that movies like Baby Driver encourage audiences to see me in other characters.

Since Mad Men, you’ve mostly done supporting roles. Has this been a conscious choice?
Jon: I don’t know. There’s not that many leading-men roles out there, and a lot of them are taken. I’ve done my share of independent films where I’ve been able to walk down the line and get into existence, and I hope that I do more. But Mr. Damon, Mr. Affleck and Mr. Bale are doing just fine at shepherding the studios’ movies into existence. There’s this guy named Brad Pitt as well, I’m excited to see what he does next. The more success you get, the bigger pool you get into, and then you’re just competing with bigger fish.

Have fan interactions changed a lot since the dawn of social media?
Jon: Yeah. I much prefer face-to-face interactions. Number one, because people will not get shitty with you face-to-face. They might hate your work, and they might call you an asshole online, but face-to-face they’re like, “Oh my god, it’s so nice to meet you, oh my god, you’re amazing!” Online they’re like, “This guy’s a fucking dick, I hope he dies.” And you’re just like, “Wow, that’s a different experience.”
Eiza: It’s a very interesting world. At the end of the day you have to just appreciate the love of people.
Jon: I will also say this about Eiza, her ability to navigate the very tricky water of this industry is impressive. There’s a lot of darkness that comes with our world, and Eiza handles it gracefully – in two languages. I don’t engage in the social media aspect of it, though. I learned a long time ago to not read shit about me on the internet, because it’s just a way to…
Eiza: Die.
Jon: To feel shit and terrible about yourself.

In the meantime, he is more concerned about the political climate in his home country.  But Hamm believes that "history has proved that governments behave like a pendulum, swinging to one side and then to the other."  Even if the pendulum has moved back in the same direction after this election, Hamm has not given up the hope "that the pendulum is swelling."
He himself, at least, as Donald Trump in the White House now, "do not panic, grab all my belongings and emigrate to Canada," he says.  Rather, his approach, "to get rid of a bit of all the chaos, by not constantly surfing the social media or watching the news on TV."
And it seems to work: "I'm less tense, I can relax more easily," says Hamm.  America is still "a country with many mistakes, but it is still the best version of such a country," he said.  "We have a tendency to overreact, and the story has proved that we go better with dialogues than with monologists, and that will continue," the actor believes.

(Hamm’s rep tells The Post that Shookus and the “Mad Men” star know each other from “SNL” but “have not dated. They are not friends; they are acquaintances.” Noth’s rep didn’t respond to requests for comment.)

"I agree with Jon. We say that not only men, but women can be too insistent when they are in the head.

Novelist Curtis Sittenfeld prompted Emmy-award winning actor Jon Hamm with questions, but his engaging personality and humorous stories about growing up in St. Louis kept the sold-out audience entertained Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the County Library headquarters on Lindbergh.

Later that evening, Andy and Mary Ann Srenco hosted a private reception for Hamm inside their home, giving donors a unique opportunity to mingle with the celebrity. Among the guests was local hero Jon Brough. The retired Belleville police sergeant was shot in the face in the line of duty while attempting to protect his fellow officers from a suspect with a shotgun. Brough, a fan of Hamm, named the actor’s performance in Bridesmaids as one of his favorites. Hamm thanked him for his service, stopping to talk and pose for a few photos with Brough and his wife, Wendy.

Video highlights of Jon Hamm's Q&A at the Library

We spoke to more than two dozen comedians who helped Scott Aukerman’s ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’ podcast get to 500 episodes.

Nick Kroll (Kroll Show, Oh, Hello): The first time I did the show was at El Gato [the Spanish-language radio station that soon replaced Indie 103.1]. It was the first time I met Jon Hamm—he was also on the show—and we did commercials as Chupacabra and Juan Jamon. But that was before it was even a podcast.

comedian Ari Shaffir
BT: You were in the movie Keeping Up With the Joneses.
AS: Yeah. It was a fun movie to be on but it was so bad. I got there, and I was like Jon Hamm, Zach Galifianakis, that’s cool.
BT: And Wonder Woman! The amazing Gal Gadot.
AS: Yeah, but that was before she was Wonder Woman. It’s fun to be on a movie set, that part was cool, but man! I didn’t tell anyone that I was in it. Good way to put it, it was watchable. I’ll take that for my fans, *in high-pitched voice* “Oh, hey, look at that, Ari!”

Jessica Williams
The charismatic Williams, who grew up in LA and was hired as the youngest-ever “Daily Show” correspondent, at 22, seems like the perfect candidate to interview the queen of interviewers. But even she isn’t immune to an occasional bout of being star-struck.
I wasn’t prepared to be so … arrested by Jon Hamm,” Williams says of having the “Mad Men” star on the podcast. “Once you make eye contact, and realize you’re, like, three feet away [from him], you’re like, ‘Oh God, I’m ready to go home. I just want to go home and play ‘the Sims.’”
