Ann and Gordon Getty’s mansion, perched atop San Francisco’s regal Pacific Heights, has been the setting of countless fundraisers and soirées for almost 50 years.
But of all the parties the home has seen, perhaps one of its most glamorous just took place on Friday night.
The occasion was amfAR’s Charity Poker Tournament & Game Night, a black-tie gala that Gwyneth Paltrow Alan Cumming, and Jon Hamm chaired with members of the Getty family (Aileen, Vanessa, and Billy), to support the organization’s efforts at ending the global AIDS epidemic.
Blackjack and roulette tables were stationed throughout the house, famous for its exquisite 18th-century decor and paintings by some folks named Matisse, Degas, and Renoir. Set up in the larger rooms was the evening’s main attraction: a poker tournament where guests competed against professional players like Jeff Gross. Some, like actor Jon Hamm, didn’t do so well.
“I lost at poker. It sucked,” joked Hamm, after his abysmal performance at the card table. “I had a pair of twos, and everyone else didn’t.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, in town to open a new Goop studio in Pacific Heights, made an appearance. Meanwhile, Vanessa Getty and Jon Hamm sat side by side at a poker table in the residence of Ann and Gordon Getty, who chaired the event alongside Paltrow, Hamm, Alan Cumming, Vanessa and Billy Getty, Maria Bello, Tyler Florence, Victoria Justice, Greg Louganis and Bradford Shellhammer. Getting the ball rolling for the auction, Hamm said, “I’m happy to be here to support AIDS research. And I don’t get to San Francisco often enough.”

Speaking at the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles, he said: “He’s a legend. The guy has worked for 60 years in the movie industry, if not longer. I don’t know what to say about him other than he’s an inspiration and he’s incredibly talented. I loved going to work everyday.”
....
Asked how it was working with Eastwood – who rose to international fame starring in Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy of “Spaghetti Westerns” in the 1960s – Hamm said: “Pretty loose and active and smart and funny and efficient.”
Hamm, speaking at the AFI Fest, said Jewell should have been treated as a national hero.
“He was tried in the media before any of the facts were in,” Hamm added.
“And he was wrongfully accused by law enforcement agencies, several law enforcement agencies, that didn’t have their facts correct and (which were) operating under agendas that weren’t right.”
